The MHB guarantee

At MHB we have our very own guarantee in addition to the guarantees offered through NZCB.  The MHB Guarantee provides you with the following:

A tidy site and manageable home life

We guarantee that while we work on your home or building, we will keep the site tidy and manageable at the end of each day.  You will be able to proudly update your friends and family with progress photos without having to tidy up the site first.  We will make sure that your day-to-day life is interrupted as little as possible.  This is particularly important if you are living in your house while we are completing your alteration.

Partnering with the best quality subtrades

At MHB quality is important.  That’s why we guarantee that we will only partner with the best quality subtrades.  You can rest easy knowing that we have chosen to use subcontractors who have proven to provide high-quality work, reliability and affordability all in one.  We have worked alongside these subcontractors many times.

Following your budget

At MHB we will work alongside you to work within your budget from start to finish.

We guarantee our team will provide clear communication with our clients at all times.  We are approachable and happy to discuss any concerns or answer any questions in person.  No question is a silly question to us.  We want our clients to feel involved, heard and understood throughout our working relationship.

Personal site meetings

If our clients wish, personal site meetings can be arranged to discuss any aspect of the build.

At MHB, our team will arrive on site on time every day that they are scheduled to be there.  Reliability is an important value to us and something we can guarantee you will receive if you trust us with your building project.

A positive attitude on site

We guarantee that our team will arrive on site with a positive attitude.  We are a happy bunch with positive mindsets.  We like to have fun, enjoy a laugh and find that we are more productive when we are happy and driven doing what we love.

Meet the MHB team

Meet Matt

Hi I’m Matt.  I am the owner and director of Matt Heath Builders Limited or MHB.  I have always had an interest in building.  Even as a young fella growing up in the small town of Coromandel.  One of my first jobs was actually refurbishing lawnmowers.  It’s through this job that I found a real interest in taking something old and run down, and making it new and workable again.  Now, I’m not saying that lawnmowers and houses are the same thing!!!  But I do enjoy getting into a renovation where I can restore something to a more modern and workable space for my clients.  When we purchase our homes, often the first ones we buy aren’t impeccable. We purchase them with aspirations to ‘do them up’.  That’s where my team and I come in.  Helping to turn your beautiful home full of potential into your dream home.  Or helping you to build your dream home from the very beginning.  Want an office space with a point of difference?  I’m your man!

My family and I moved to the sunshine capital of NZ (Whakatane) when I was 12.  I started building when I was 16.  I got an apprenticeship with a local builder and completed my qualification through BCITO.  After becoming a qualified builder, I gained a role as a Site Foreman for a large building company in Whakatane.  After a couple of years, I decided it was time for a bit of a change.  I gained employment with a couple of smaller building companies specialising in architectural builds as a subcontracting independent builder.  This is when I decided I wanted to try seek work of my own in areas that interested me.  I began obtaining work on bathrooms and smaller renovations and built up a good reputation within my community.  Fast forward 8 years and I now have my own team!  This consists of three qualified builders (including myself) and my wife Rachel who does the administration work for our business.  We specialise in alterations, light commercial work and new builds.  I really enjoy creating that point of difference in the jobs that I do.  Whether it be making a feature of an exposed beam, creating a barn style door for an entrance way or anything else that my clients want to do to make their home or job different to the rest.

When I’m not working, I am usually out and about with family.  Rachel and I have three kids; Blake, Ivy and Jack.  Three very bright, very adventurous kids.  I enjoy fishing, hunting, CrossFit and mountain biking.  Basically, anything outdoors.  My other passion is my Harley.  I love to ride whenever I get a chance.  There is something peaceful about being out on the road on my bike.

Meet Toi

Kia Ora, I’m Toi.  I have worked with Matt for the past five years, completing my apprenticeship with MHB.  In this time I have worked on a large range of builds from small alterations to new builds and everything in between.

I am proud of achieving my goal of obtaining my level 4 National Certificate in Carpentry.

I enjoy meeting new clients and helping them to make their vision a reality by working alongside Matt and the team.

When I’m not at work, I spend my time with my young family and enjoy getting outdoors.

Meet Rachel

Hi I’m Rachel.  I am Matt’s wife and the office administrator for our business.  I grew up in a small town called Kawerau.  I attended school there until I was 13 and moved with my family to Whakatane to attend High School.  After I finished school, I got my first job as an office junior in a local law firm.  About 6 months after starting there, the opportunity for me to become a junior secretary in one of the legal teams came up and I jumped at the chance to try it.  Here I found my passion for administration and legal work.  A couple of years after working as a secretary I began my study towards my Legal Executive Diploma.  During this time, we found out we were expecting our first child and I continued my studies both during my pregnancy and after our first beautiful boy was born.  I qualified 3 years after starting my diploma and worked as a Legal Executive until our second child, our daughter, was born.  I decided to take a step back from work after she was born to focus on our family and to allow Matt the time that he needed to grow our business.  Not quite two years after our daughter arrived, our third and final child, another boy graced us with his presence and we knew that our perfect little family was complete, in all of its crazy and noisy glory!!

As our children have grown and become more independent, my role in our business has evolved.  I have found that immersing myself in administration work still brings me a great deal of joy.  I enjoy connecting with people and projects, and using my experience in office work to help Matt get some of his valuable time back too.

When I’m not working or running around with Matt and the kids, you will find me in my garden, in my kitchen or at the gym.  Both Matt and I attend CrossFit classes at our local gym.  We both find that exercise creates a better headspace and in turn, better productivity.

Meet Hami

Kia Ora, I’m Hami.  I currently work for Matt Heath Builders as our site foreman.

I have been building for about 12 years and have experience in commercial, light commercial and residential areas.

I really enjoy building and take pride in my work.  I find building very satisfying and love seeing the progress from start to finish.

I also like to make work enjoyable by having a few laughs, and throwing out a bit of banter to help speed the day up!

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my partner and our daughters, as well as a few outdoor hobbies like fishing, diving and hunting.
